How to use evergreen pins to drive long term traffic from Pinterest

It’s content creation day - yey! Think of a killer content idea… create a lovely Canva graphic… write a bob on caption… press post and... crickets. Until a like pops up - from your mum! Sigh. Thanks very much Insta.

Sound familiar?

Thankfully this is where Pinterest has a totally different vibe. It’s not about chasing trends or posting daily for fear of being forgotten (which I DO NOT advocate by the way - quality over quantity people!). Pinterest is a visual search engine, not a social feed which means your content doesn’t expire. It compounds. And that’s exactly where evergreen pins come in.

These pins are the slow burners. The quiet grafters. The ones that keep showing up in searches and sending traffic your way long after you hit publish. If you’re building a Pinterest strategy that’s sustainable and smart, evergreen content is essential.

(Psst - if you’re thinking”'this sounds brilliant but where do I start?” I’ve got you. Scroll to the bottom and we’ll sort it together.)

What are evergreen pins?

Evergreen pins are pins that stay relevant all year round. They’re not tied to a specific date, trend or short term promotion. Instead, they focus on timeless content that your audience will always find helpful whether they discover it next week or next year.

These can be image pins and video pins. The key is that they offer ongoing value. They’re informative, practical and easy to search for.

Why evergreen pins matter

Let’s get real: creating content constantly is exhausting. Evergreen pins take the pressure off by giving you a way to build up a library of helpful, searchable posts that work behind the scenes. Pinterest’s algorithm rewards quality, relevant content not just what’s new.

That means an evergreen pin you post today can still drive clicks, saves and traffic in six months’ time. Or a year. Or longer.

They work brilliantly for:

  • Driving consistent traffic to your website or blog

  • Growing your email list with free lead magnets

  • Showcasing your services without having to constantly re-promote them

Examples of evergreen content that works on Pinterest

There’s loads of opportunity to create content that has a long shelf life. Think:

  • How-tos and tutorials
"How to style a gallery wall"
"How to create a Pinterest strategy that actually works"

  • Educational blog posts
"Why Pinterest is a game changer for small businesses"
"The truth about hashtags on Pinterest"

  • Tips and hacks
"5 quick ways to improve your Instagram bio"
"Easy kitchen storage hacks that actually work"

  • Checklists and resources
    "Spring cleaning checklist"
    "Ultimate travel packing guide"

  • Products or services that stay relevant
    "Best gifts for new mums"
"Top tools I use in my business every week"

Note: Seasonal content can still be evergreen if it comes back around every year. A Christmas gift guide, for example, is something you can pin months in advance and re use each season with a little updating.

How to create evergreen pins

You’ve got great content. Now let’s make sure it gets seen:

  • Use clear, keyword rich titles and descriptions – Pinterest is a search engine, so think like your audience

  • Keep the design clean and legible on mobile – most users are scrolling on their phones

  • Use a strong call to action – like “Read the blog”, “Get the free guide” or “Try this tip”

  • Create multiple pins for the same piece of content – experiment with formats and headlines

  • Repurpose what you’ve already got – blogs, newsletters, Instagram tips... it’s all fair game

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the idea of yet another platform to keep up with, here’s your permission to do less, but do it better.

Start with the content you already have. Turn it into helpful, timeless pins. And let Pinterest do what it does best.
